Galveston

Daryl and I had a wonderful weekend away to celebrate our 33rd anniversary..  We went to Galveston for 2 nights and 3 days..

It.  Was.  Awesome..

We left kind of late on Friday, spent several hours shopping first, trying to find Daryl shorts and sandals..  Then we hit the road..  Got to our hotel about 7. Got our feet in the sand at the beach before 8.  Took a few photos.. drew in the sand.. Stared out at the ocean a while...

Then we walked a bit along Seawall Blvd. Enjoyed the sights, of Pleasure Pier,

Pleasure Pier
and looking at the numerous seafood restaurants that had lots of flashy lighting.. We visited several really nice gift shops. Murdochs was very good... they had Margarita machines.. :) We sipped our margaritas sitting on an open deck overlooking the ocean..

Yes it was pitch black out there, but the air was nice, the sound of the waves was wonderful, and we enjoyed just relaxing after our long drive.

Then we headed down Seawall Blvd looking for a place to eat our Anniversary dinner at.. We found "Salsas" a mexican food place that was really a good choice! Good prices, GREAT food.. (Fajitas were really really really good) and a nice atmosphere..

After dinner we headed back to our hotel..

Day 2 found us up early to enjoy the hotels inhouse breakfast.. It was nothing to rave about, In fact we were quite disappointed..

But it got us up and out early, and to Stewart Beach by around 10. It was amazingly empty.. Not totally but with less than 100 people in sight of us.. The man in the gift shop had told Daryl that any other weekend the beach would have 1000s of people, but since this was the last weekend before school started, there was only 100s expected :) Which made it nice for us! We played in the water, Daryl had a blast catching waves and letting them bring him towards the beach.. We were like a couple little kids playing in the water. It was just SO much fun!

I only took photos after we were done in the water.. I didn't want to take my camera or phone out on the beach with all the sand, so left them locked up in the car..

There were tons of seagulls just sitting there on the sand.. some looking like they were just posing for photos.. so of course I had to oblige them...

We left there and had lunch at McDonalds, where I had a blast feeding seagulls my leftover fries .. They loved them.

We then headed to the Harbor, where we were going on a Dolphin Sighting tour..

We saw the Elissa - a tall ship

We used Baywatch Dolphin Tours, and it was VERY reasonably priced, the captain was extremely nice, and sometimes quite funny. He took us on a harbor tour, pointing out sights, giving us information, and then we saw the dolphins.. I took photos, it was hard to catch them.. I also took a little video with my phone. It was kind of funny, the people sitting with us on the front of the boat, were from our town.... they live just about a mile from us.. Small world!

After the Dolphin tour, we walked around the Strand area some.. Looked at gift shops, had a snack, just enjoyed spending time together.  Then we drove and rode the ferry from Galveston to Point Bolivar..  No special reason to ride it, just to see how it was... We also saw dolphins from the ferry. And TONS of Pelicans!

On the Ferry observation Deck..  Pelican Island to our left - "SeaWolf Park"

Some of the hundreds of pelicans we saw

Point Bolivar Light House
After the Ferry round trip, we went in search of a place for Supper.. We ended up at "Jiimmy's on the Pier"

Where we had possibly the best Margaritas in the world :)

We had been planning on mini golf afterwards, but we were so full, and tired, we just headed back to the hotel..

We slept in on Sunday - deciding it was our last day of our mini vacation, so we didn't want to rush..

We ate brunch at the
Mosquito Cafe -

Then we drove down the street to "Bishops Palace"
We weren't allowed any photographs inside, so I only have two.. one from the sidewalk, and one of the gargoyle

But it was a pretty cool tour, the home is amazing.. has withstood major hurricanes, with little damage. And SO beautiful inside..

After our tour, we headed on home..

Galveston weekend was so nice..  Being with the love of my life, seeing things I had never seen, playing in the water, watching dolphins, the entire weekend was just perfect..

Oh.. with the minor exception of this...

I should have listened to my husband...  JUST because it's cloudy, rainy and dreary, you can still get burned.. (this happened on our dolphin tour.. )

But this was perhaps the best anniversary we have had..  Can't wait till our next getaway together!
