First things, I was hired by Aetna in February. I'm so grateful for this job, and i'm good at it, or was starting to be good. Best trainer and manager ever. And the company was wo good when my symptoms started.
April 14, I had bad dizzy spells, we chalked it up to high blood pressure. April 16 it was very high, 190s over 120s. I had to go to er. told.my manager and trainer the situation, logged out and Michael drove me to Hill County Regional.
The ER Dr did an EKG, and that was fine, blood pressure was high, but he wanted to do a scan to make sure I didn't have a brain bleed.
While getting the scan, the tech asked me if I had fallen... Weird question I thought. No.falls. Then they wheeled me.back.to.the exam room, and Daryl.was arriving at same time from work.
A few minutes later Dr. Oad (The Emergency room Dr) came.in, and said he had some.bad news..... I had a large frontal lobe tumor, crossing over the midline of my brain. . After discussing it with my oncologist we arranged a visit with him.next day. He did scans making sure there wasn't anything suspicious anywhere else checking my chest and abdomen with a CT Scan. And there wasn't.
My oncologist set up an urgent appointment for me with the neurosurgeon, supposed to be one of the best in Dallas. The surgeon sent me to get another ct scan and an mri. The next week he saw me to advise about my large tumor.
Surgery was arranged, advised the hospital stay was 2 days, maybe 3. The Friday before the surgery was scheduled, I was sitting watching TV with Daryl, I started getting very disoriented, then felt nausea hit and stood to go to bathroom, to be sick, I immediately lost my footing and fell, thankfully Daryl caught me. I threw up for almost an hour, and every time I opened my eyes the dizziness was so bad. Daryl contacted surgeons office, they advised ambulance take me to nearest ER to stabilize me. Apparently it was a vertigo attack brought on from tumor pressing on certain part of brain, They kept me in ER all night because my Lactic Acid levels were so high, I had to get rehydrated and get them below 1.5, mine were above 3.5 to start, It was a pretty scary night. I couldn't walk, couldn't open my eyes because I would start throwing up again, I never want to experience that again,
Long story short, surgery May 27. In the hospital 6 days, not 2 or 3. It was one of the biggest meningiomas Dr, had worked with. He replaced a very large portion of my skull with prothesis. The company that made them, said it was the biggest they had ever made,
Although my surgeon originally told me he would be shaving my head completely, I ended up being able to keep most of my hair, he just shaved.along his incision line.
It was a large.meningioma. benign. But he was not able to remove it all so there's a chance.it.will.come.back. I've been off my new job on leave, and go.back.in a few.weeks. im.so glad.
Scary though that it will probably come back. There are parts of it that were too dangerous to remove. so its now wait and see when it does come back. It was NOT a metastasis from my breast cancer, so that was good to hear.
But man, I have had a rough 18 months. March 2024 laid off, Breast cancer last year, brain tumor this year. I need to have some good stuff happening now!!!
