I'm raising a Surgeon.

Rebecca has major life goals - she wants to be an orthopedic surgeon. A Pediatric orthopedic surgeon! She decided this about 2 years ago, She had decided to become a doctor about 4 years ago, but chose what specialty she wanted when she was 10. I am amazed by her every single day.

She is so bright, and smart, and she has the most amazing vocabulary of any 12 year old I have ever met. (Her vocabulary outshines a lot of adults I know!) She reads anything and everything she can get her hands on. She loves doing schoolwork. Sometimes she is quite intimidating, she has mastered the art of Sarcasm, and can spar back and forth with her 54 year old super smart uncle, just as if they were on the same level.

I don't know where this child came from sometimes :) She is our only blond, She is so intelligent, and logical. (And stubborn, and strong willed) She is a vegetarian - chose to be on her own at age 5. She will be 13 in a few weeks, and has not backed down off her vegetarian stance. My boys are both older than her, all grown up, and very smart in their own right, but she is so far past where they were at her age - she is like a sponge- you give her something to learn and she does it, and not only gets it done, but she gets it done WELL.
Give the child an instrument, she can teach herself to play, give her math problems, she figures them out. Give her an extremely difficult book and she can read it.

When she found out our co-op classes were having a science fair, she chose her project IMMEDIATELY - she wanted to build a hovercraft- so she did. With VERY little help from dad (mostly taking her to home depot to get the wood, and instructing her on how to use the electric saw and drill) She built a working hovercraft - strong enough to hold 200 pounds and hover and move across the ground. She really did well --

I worry sometimes she might be hurting her friendships by being such a smart girl. She tends to get very sarcastic, and smart alec-y to them at times, and not everyone "gets" it. I live with her, and she and her dad are a lot alike, so I am used to this. I could do without the teen attitude, but the sarcasm and all I have been dealing with with hubby for 30 years.

But she is going to be a surgeon - she has her medical school chosen - She has plans for high school in place, She will be taking math and science courses at the Jr College as soon as she is old enough, she wants to make sure her transcripts are perfect so she can get into Baylor College of Medicine in Waco.

I am glad I have this daughter - she challenges me, keeps me on my toes on a daily basis. She i moody and annoying at times, but she is beautiful, smart and talented, and I am very lucky to have her.
